From villain encounters to hidden details throughout the ship, here are five tips to help you make the most of your Disney Destiny cruise.

I recently sailed aboard the Disney Destiny on a 5-night Western Caribbean cruise, round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with stops in Cozumel, Mexico, Disney's Castaway Cay and two days at sea. It was my sixth Disney cruise but my first on the Destiny, and it quickly became one of my favorites! We stayed in a verandah stateroom, which was the perfect place to relax between all the onboard activities.

The Disney Destiny's heroes-and-villains theme caught my attention right away. As a huge Marvel fan and someone who will almost always choose a Disney villain over a princess, I felt right at home! From Maleficent and Cruella de Vil to Marvel heroes, Hercules and Merida, the details throughout the ship are incredible. The design feels modern, polished and immersive, almost like staying at a Disney resort on the water.

After my sailing, I put together five tips to help you get the most out of your own Disney Destiny vacation.

1. Use the ship's details to find your way around

One of my favorite details aboard the Disney Destiny is how the heroes-and-villains theme carries into the ship's design, right down to the carpets and elevators. It isn't just beautiful decor; it can also help you figure out where you are.

The forward (front) of the ship leans into the villains theme, while the aft (back) celebrates the heroes. Look down as you walk the hallways: if you spot Maleficent's dragon in the carpet, you're likely in the villains-themed forward section. If you see Sorcerer Mickey, you're in the heroes-themed aft section. The elevator interiors follow the same idea, with villains on one side of the ship and heroes on the other.

My advice? Take a few minutes to look around as you explore. You'll discover so many thoughtful details, and the ship's theming may even become your own little navigation tool!

2. Don't skip the unique villain character experiences

Character experiences aren't just for kids! One of the things I loved most about the Disney Destiny was interacting with some of Disney's most iconic villains in ways I had never experienced before.

The Dr. Facilier encounter was a standout. He uses card tricks and a little mischief, which makes it feel completely different from a traditional meet-and-greet. Photography isn't permitted, which makes it all the more fun to simply enjoy the moment.

I also loved the experience inside De Vil's, the piano lounge where Cruella de Vil puts her own spin on her famous song. Guests get to join in, and it feels more like a playful little show than a character greeting.

And, of course, you can't miss Maleficent! Her encounter starts with storytelling before guests get to interact with her and take photos. Each experience is different, so check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app for the schedule and make time for the ones that interest you most. These experiences truly set the Destiny apart from other Disney ships.

3. Make time for the storytellers and their shows

If one thing stood out during my sailing, it was the storytelling. The Disney Destiny has two traveling storytellers, Zayah and Gamble, who bring the heroes-and-villains theme to life through interactive shows, character appearances and unexpected moments around the ship.

We attended several of their experiences, and honestly, we loved them all! One highlight was The Legend of Loki, which brings the God of Mischief into the Grand Hall for a humorous retelling of his story. Their performances are funny, creative and woven into the ship's idea of discovering your own destiny.

My absolute favorite was With Great Power: A Marvel Comedy Show, an adults-only show that puts a hilarious spin on some of Marvel's most memorable stories. If you're a Marvel fan, I absolutely recommend it. It was one of the most entertaining shows we saw, so arrive early to get a good spot.

The best part is that Zayah and Gamble don't only appear at scheduled shows. We even spotted them dancing with a live band while we were enjoying a drink in a lounge! Keep an eye on your daily schedule, and if you see them around the ship, stop and enjoy whatever they have planned.

4. Ride the AquaMouse for its villain-themed story

The AquaMouse is Disney Cruise Line's signature water attraction at sea, but the Disney Destiny has a story you won't find on the other ships: Sing a Silly Song.

This exclusive storyline takes Mickey and Minnie on an adventure up Villain Mountain, where they run into some familiar Disney villains. Even if you've ridden the AquaMouse on the Disney Wish or Disney Treasure, this version gives you a new reason to ride again.

My tip: check the AquaMouse hours in the Navigator app and plan to ride more than once. There are several storylines on the Destiny, so you may want to experience more than one during your sailing, but only Sing a Silly Song is exclusive to the Destiny!

5. Order coffee and breakfast the night before disembarkation

This last tip isn't exclusive to the Disney Destiny, but it was one of the most useful things I learned on our cruise!

On disembarkation morning, breakfast options are more limited than on a typical day. You can eat in your assigned dining room or grab something at Marceline Market. But if you have an early flight or simply want to get off the ship quickly, there's another option worth considering.

Our dining team recommended ordering room service the night before disembarkation, since the usual morning room service isn't available while the ship prepares for its next sailing. We ordered coffee and a croissant late that evening, and the coffee was still pleasantly warm the next morning!

As a coffee lover with an early flight to catch, I was so glad we took their advice. We enjoyed a little breakfast in our stateroom, gathered our luggage and headed off the ship without an extra stop. If you have an early departure, it's a simple tip that makes your final morning a little less hectic.

A few more Disney Destiny highlights

Beyond my top five tips, there was so much more we enjoyed. I loved the balance between lively entertainment and time to relax. We had a great time with the DJ in the adults-only area, and we also appreciated quieter moments by the pool, watching a Disney movie on the Funnel Vision screen.

The food was another highlight, especially Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King, one of the rotational dining restaurants. The theming and entertainment made dinner feel like part of the adventure, and some of our favorite dishes were served our first night. If you enjoy curry, I highly recommend the Cape Malay Shrimp Curry!

We also had beautiful weather at Disney's Castaway Cay, which made our island day even more special.

What I loved most about the Disney Destiny was how seamlessly the storytelling is woven into so many parts of the cruise. From the hallways and elevators to the character encounters and live entertainment, there was always something new to discover. Whether you're a Marvel fan, a Disney villain enthusiast or simply looking for a memorable Disney cruise, the Destiny has so much to offer.
